Art and creativity in business
Art-inspired entrepreneurship

Once upon a time, in a world where creativity and quirkiness collided, I stumbled upon a collection of Indian paintings from the 1900s by the legendary Raja Ravi Varma. Little did I know that these timeless masterpieces would spark a series of events that would lead me down the path of digital marketing and drop shipping while designing my witty t-shirts that would make even the Mona Lisa crack a smile.

Raja Ravi Varma paintings
Oxford defines art as “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.”

As I looked through Raja Ravi Varma's paintings, a world of vibrant colours and captivating stories about empowered women unfolded before my eyes. The art forms defined activism for me and conveyed messages of promoting gender equality, tradition, culture, and a zest for life. They whispered to me, "Embrace your uniqueness and let your imagination soar!" I realized that these paintings were not just strokes of genius, but invitations to infuse my personality into my creations.

Through my encounters with Raja Ravi Varma's art, I learned that I possessed a knack for blending humour and creativity. Who knew that behind my somewhat ordinary exterior, there lay a secret weapon—a quick wit and a quirky sense of humour? These paintings taught me that life is too short to be serious all the time and that injecting a little laughter into the world is a noble mission.

Amrita Sher-Gil art

My designs began to take shape, infused with the spirit of Raja Ravi Varma's art. I wanted to capture the essence of his timeless paintings while adding my twist of humour. I created t-shirts that transformed traditional Indian motifs into modern-day punchlines. Who could resist a t-shirt with a quote from Raja Ravi Varma himself, saying, "I paint dreams and laughter, now wear them too!"?

As I delved deeper into the world of Indian art, I became curious about exploring the fusion of traditional and contemporary artistic expressions. I wondered how I could incorporate elements of other renowned Indian painters like Amrita Sher-Gil and MF Husain into my designs. Their bold strokes and unique perspectives intrigued me, igniting a fire of curiosity within.

At the time of my artistic awakening, I found myself in a life that desperately needed a dash of colour and adventure apart from my 9 to 5 job. I was already learning about digital marketing and thought if I could apply all that I was learning to sell t-shirts, it could be a great side hustle. I was surrounded by a tribe of like-minded individuals who shared my passion for creativity and a good laugh. Together, we embarked on a journey to turn our dreams into reality, armed with paintbrushes, and pixels.

Creative t-shirt designs

Of course, no journey is without its challenges and growth. Mixing the world of paintings and t-shirt prints was like attempting to tame a wild tiger with a feather duster. I faced obstacles, from translating the intricacies of art onto fabric to finding the perfect balance between traditional aesthetics and contemporary appeal. But with each hurdle, I grew more resilient and determined to create designs that would make my customers happy and interested. Finally launching my online store on Instagram – TeeTrendShop and through this mix of paintings and t-shirt designs, I came to a remarkable realization—art has the power to unite, inspire, and bring joy to people from all walks of life.

I witnessed how my designs sparked conversations, brought smiles to faces, and even caused a few snorts of laughter. It was a reminder that humour is a universal language that transcends cultural boundaries, bringing people together in a world that sometimes feels divided.

In conclusion, my journey from an art enthusiast to a digital marketer and t-shirt designer has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride through a kaleidoscope of colours and laughter. The messages are hidden within Raja Ravi Varma's paintings and the works of other renowned Indian painters.

These are my final designs that were liked by my customers the most because of the witty mix of traditional aesthetics which were highly inspired by the idea of women empowerment from Raja Ravi Varma’s paintings, vibrancy from Amrita Sher-Gill’s paintings and humour touch from MF Husain motifs.
